Black Holes (2020)
"Black Holes" is a mixed-media series of fabricated "black holes" that swallow the objects we so often use, and then lose, in daily life. The items (remotes, pens, lighters, etc.) were selected from a list of the most commonly misplaced/lost items. While this series provides a comedic, fictitious explanation for misplaced items, it also serves as a reminder of the haunting reality of consumerist waste. The glossy, black sludge that the objects are immersed in, reminiscent of oil spills and toxic waste, creates a visual representation of the negative environmental effects of mass consumerism. Perhaps in reality, these black holes are the dumps and wastelands overflowing with the cheap items we decided to "just buy another one" of.
