shoot (2016)
"shoot" blends the experimental and the narrative in a film following a 1960s model posing for a photoshoot. Originally inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni's 1966 film "Blow Up", about a London fashion photographer, "shoot" presents an alternative narrative from the perspective of one of the models objectified by the male photographer protagonist and the fashion world in general.
Bookended by the cold, bodiless voice of the photographer giving directions, the film presents a moment in which the model finds freedom within a psychedelic dreamscape of colors and movement, free from the contraints of an industry driven by constraining beauty standards and the male gaze.
