Efficiency Objects (Work in Progress)
In an increasingly fast-paced, digital world, time has become a precious commodity. Time-saving, multi-use products are now the norm for an on-the-go generation with a simultaneously dwindling attention span and rising pressure of productivity.
This series takes commercialized solutions for increased productivity/efficiency to a surreal level. Using stock photography of pre-existing products, I created digital prototypes of "Efficiency Objects" that promise a time-saving, multi-use experience. The result is a dissonance between the familiar and the new. The use of generic, stock imagery to digitally create fake objects not only imbues the creations with an uncanny familiarity but also embodies the underlying ethos of mass-produced efficiency. The method of creation mirrors the product itself: cheap, fast, and generic.
The surreal and un-functional nature of the objects highlights the absurdity behind a digital, consumerist culture that praises efficiency to the point of inhumanness.
